This year’s non-E3 weekend of video game events kicked off earlier today with Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest showcase. But it wasn’t long before Devolver Digital, perhaps the most ingenious publisher of all, took to the digital airwaves to show off six of its games at its 2024 Summer Devolver Direct presentation.
If you can’t find it, or you’ve forgotten the name (or release date) of the game you want to check out, we’re here to help.
Here’s everything announced at today’s Summer 2024 Devolver Direct presentation:
owner
Possessor(s) is a new game from Heart Machine, the team behind Hyper Light Drifter and Solar Ash, and is scheduled for release on undisclosed consoles and PC next year. It features action combat inspired by platform fighters like Super Smash Bros. and is set in an isolated city destroyed by an interdimensional disaster.
In the game, players control the host, Luca, and her less cooperative counterpart, Rehm, as they explore a sprawling metropolis filled with ruined skyscrapers and the secrets of what happened. Devolver says the story will feature multiple paths in an “open world structure,” with upgrades that will allow Luca and Rehm to explore previously inaccessible areas, possibly hinting at a Metroidvania-inspired city layout.
Tenjutsu
Tenjutsu is a jujitsu-inspired action roguelite created by Sébastien Benard, lead designer of Dead Cells and solo developer at Deepnight Games, and will be released on consoles and PC in the future. If you’re familiar with Benard’s work, you’ll know that he released Tenjutsu (48h version) in 2022. Tenjutsu is a fully fleshed out version of the 2022 concept.
Devolver describes the game as “fast and fluid rogue jutsu” that leans into the game’s shaman rogue-lite action. Here you take control of a renegade Yakuza “who despises his former comrades and is bent on loosening their grip on the secret garden city.” To do so, you must fight against four powerful crime syndicates. To defeat them, “you’ll need to master the brutal melee system and build up a variety of weapons, upgrades, and martial arts skills to unleash violence and take over the streets.”
You must take down all four crime syndicates, but you can take them down in any order. Doing so will unlock new weapons, combat moves, and additional areas to explore. However, the longer you take to do this, the stronger the enemies become.
Cult of the Lamb: Unholy Alliance
Developer Massive Monster isn’t done yet with its 2022 hit game Cult of the Lamb, as it’s releasing with a full campaign co-op mode this August. The Unholy Alliance update is coming to the game on August 12th and adds a new playable character: Goat.
With Goat joining the title Lamb, players can now experience the entire campaign in local co-op. Devolver says the update includes two-player twists on Cult of the Lamb’s existing minigames like fishing and knucklebones, as well as additional damaged weapons, tarot cards, curses, and artifacts. While playing cooperatively, players can swap weapons, deal extra damage when fighting back to back, and deal critical hits when their attacks are synchronized. Additionally, solo players can also gain new powers and abilities to play with.
Elsewhere in the update, Unholy Alliance adds new buildings, fleece, follower traits, follower quests, and more secrets to discover.
Talos Principles II: The Road to Elysium
One of our favorite games of 2023, The Talos Principal II, is set to release a trilogy “coda” expansion called Road To Elysium next week on June 14th. Devolver says it will reunite players with beloved characters and test their puzzle-solving skills through a series of thought-provoking new stories.
Road To Elysium follows the events of The Talos Principle II and continues the evolution of the robot world, while also providing a new perspective on some key moments from the base game. This expansion consists of three chapters, each with a unique look and feel.
- orpheus rises: Set in ancient Egypt, this chapter explores the philosophy of love, death, and resurrection through the story of Hypatia and Sarabai.
- blessed island: This chapter allows players to hang out with Yaqut and Miranda, as well as Cornelius and Athena in a “puzzle-driven adventure set on a stunning Caribbean island.”
- into the abyss: Devolvers says that this chapter will take players “back to one of the most dramatic moments of The Talos Principle II” and find out what happened to Byron when he was trapped in the Megastructure.
Talos Principal II’s Road to Elysium expansion pack launches June 14 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The price is $19.99.
Feet of Fury
After delaying Anger Foot to 2024 last year, Devolver Digital has given the first-person kicker (and shooter) a PC release date of July 11.
If you’re unfamiliar with Anger Foot, the game takes place in the caffeinated S**t City and tasks players with literally stepping into a menacing menagerie of ruthless gangsters.
“Unleash the world’s deadliest paws against anthropomorphic enemies, clearing slums, sewers and skyscrapers as you acquire new weapons, unlock new sneakers and upgrade your abilities in outrageous and awesome ways,” the press release states. It’s with me.
The Crush House
Devolver today announced that The Crush House, its reality TV-inspired “third-person shooter”, is coming to PC on August 9th. However, the publisher has revealed that a new demo of the game is available to download and play now.
In The Crush House you play as Jae, the new producer of The Crush House. As Jae, take your camera to her Malibu, California mansion and capture as much drama, romance, and suspense as possible to keep viewers glued to the screen. However, if you fail to please the audience, your performance will be cancelled.
That’s everything announced at today’s 2024 Devolver Digital presentation.
