“I get along very well with evangelicals, I love evangelicals,” Trump said, before launching into a salad of harsh words.
“Religion is a really great thing. Religion keeps you going, you know, there’s something good about it. “You want to be good,” he said. “When things like that happen, you want to be nice. Do you want to go to heaven? You want to go to heaven. If there is no heaven, why is that? Why should I be good? Let’s not get along, what does it matter?’”
Colbert tried to sum it up.
“So the reason you have to be good is because of heaven,” he said. “That’s like saying to a child that if he weren’t the ‘Elf on the Shelf’ he would have murdered his parents. But it’s there and I want a gift.”
