Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said this week that he believes former President Trump’s conviction will only make him stronger and that the conviction could ultimately backfire on the left.
Gingrich joined John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM’s “Cats Roundtable” to hear a jury on all 34 felony counts against Trump for falsifying business records related to hush money payments to conceal his relationship with porn actress Stormy Daniels. The jury’s decision to convict was discussed. of the 2016 election.
Gingrich praised the former president for how he handled himself following the ruling.
“Trump has handled all of this with great dignity and patience, and I think he’s actually grown taller as people realize. “This man is getting a huge beating for his rights just to save his country,” he said.
Gingrich argued that hush trials and convictions “could backfire on the left in a comical way, leaving them, I think, weaker than they would have been had they not followed this path.” And that’s a big factor.”
Gingrich criticized this ruling as a “fake conviction” covered in “fake news.”
“Well, I think we are at a real crisis point. And we just saw the most bogus case ever filed against a presidential candidate,” Gingrich said. “We know Trump had a fake conviction masked by fake news.”
The former chairman blamed Trump’s conviction on the Biden campaign, which he said was trying to remove Trump from the election. The Biden campaign was not involved in the incident. Trump was found guilty by a 12-member New York jury.
The former president criticized the conviction and pledged to appeal. In his remarks after the decision was made, President Trump said the “real verdict” would come on his Election Day.
The Trump campaign said it has raised more than $50 million in donations since Thursday.
Gingrich argued that the “shocking results” of the ruling have made some Republicans and independents angry and want to intervene financially.
“I think people looked up and said, ‘Now this is so serious that we have to get involved,’” Gingrich said.
