In Thursday’s semi-final against Maharashtra, Nair smashed 88* off 44 balls, with nine fours and five sixes, to guide Vidarbha to a match-winning total of 380 runs. Maharashtra could only make 311/7.
Nair is on the verge of breaking the tournament’s all-time record. If he scores 79 more runs in the tournament, he will surpass Tamil Nadu batsman Narayan Jagadeesan’s record of 830 runs (8-match average of 138.33, strike rate of 125, five-plus centuries and highest score of 277). During the 2022/23 competition.
This strong performance in the tournament earned Nair favorable reviews from cricket clubs and fans alike, with many demanding another call-up to the Indian team. Nair, who last played for India in March 2017, was India’s only Test triple centurion since legendary opener Virender Sehwag.
In six Tests in India since his debut in 2016, he has scored 374 runs in seven innings at an average of 62.33, with a best score of 303*. Nair also played two ODIs for India, scoring 46 runs with a highest score of 39.
